"I'm going solo — do I really need the big one?"
No. The Personal 6ft gives you 67 inches of shade — more than enough for one chair and your cooler. It's 2+ pounds lighter to carry across the parking lot, and the tilt mechanism lets you angle the canopy as the sun moves. If it's just you (or you and one other person sitting close), the 6ft is the right call.
"How much more shade does the 7.5ft actually give?"
The Large jumps from 67" to 88" of shade diameter — that's nearly 7.5 feet of protected ground. In real terms, it's the difference between shading one beach chair and shading two chairs plus a small cooler between them. If you've got kids building sandcastles in front of you, the 7.5ft keeps them covered too.
"The Personal tilts but the Large doesn't — does that matter?"
It depends on how long you're out. The Personal's tilt is great for solo sessions — as the sun shifts, you angle the canopy without moving your setup. The Large doesn't tilt, but its 88" shade footprint is so big that the sun has to move significantly before you lose coverage. For all-day family setups, the extra coverage area compensates for the fixed position.
Small price to pay. Isn't your health worth it?
