Sun Umbrellas for Everyday Shade

These are sun umbrellas you carry, not patio umbrellas: every one is UPF 50+, blocks 99% of UV rays and folds into a bag. If you're after a market or cantilever umbrella for the backyard, this isn't that range. These personal sun umbrellas are made for walking, commuting, travel, the school run and the sideline, anywhere you need shade and there isn't any.

Choose by how you carry it. The Compact UV Parasol weighs 425 g and folds to 29 cm for a handbag. The Travel UV Parasol folds to 44 cm for a backpack or suitcase. The Large Folding UV Parasol has a 147 cm arc that covers two people and still folds to 51 cm.

Why a Personal Sun Umbrella Works in Australia

  • Shade where there isn't any. Footpaths, bus stops, school gates and car parks rarely have trees. SunSmart lists seeking shade as one of its five sun protection steps, and a sun umbrella lets you take it with you.
  • Cooler, not just darker. The reflective silver Solarteck® top reflects heat as well as UV, so you can stay up to 8°C cooler than standing in direct sun.
  • Tested protection. The fabric is lab tested to AATCC TM183-2020 and blocks 100% of UVB and 99.97% of UVA. It's dermatologist recommended and approved by the Melanoma International Foundation.
  • Rain or shine. Every UV-Blocker sun umbrella doubles as a rain umbrella.

Use it with sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses, not instead of them: UV still reflects up from pavement and water. Prices are in Australian dollars.

FAQ's

Frequently Asked Questions

What size sun parasol should I get?

It depends on how you'll carry it and who you're shading. The Compact UV Parasol (107 cm arc, 425 g) folds to 29 cm for a handbag. The Large Folding UV Parasol has a 147 cm arc that covers two people and still folds to 51 cm. For the golf course, the golf umbrellas have 157 cm and 173 cm arcs, and for the beach there's a 1.8 m personal umbrella and a 2.3 m family umbrella.

Do sun parasols actually block UV?

Yes, when the fabric is tested and rated. Every UV-Blocker parasol is UPF 50+ and lab tested to block 100% of UVB and 99.97% of UVA passing through the canopy. Use it with clothing, a hat, sunscreen and sunglasses, because UV also reflects up off sand, water and concrete.

Does a parasol keep you cooler?

Yes. The reflective silver top reflects heat as well as UV, so you can stay up to 8°C cooler than standing in direct sun. You'll notice it most on long walks, at the beach and anywhere without natural shade.

Can I use a sun parasol in the rain?

Yes. Every UV-Blocker parasol doubles as a rain umbrella, so one umbrella handles harsh sun and a passing shower. Let it dry open before you fold it away.

What does UPF 50+ mean on a parasol?

UPF measures how much UV passes through fabric. UPF 50+ means less than 1/50th gets through, so at least 98% is blocked, and 50+ is the highest rating under Australia's AS/NZS 4399 standard for sun protective fabrics. Every parasol in this range is UPF 50+.

Do you ship to Australia?

Yes. Prices are shown in Australian dollars. Orders ship from Pennsylvania, USA with UPS or DHL, usually the next business day, and freight to your address is calculated at checkout. You can return within 30 days for a refund or exchange.
