Frequent Asked Questions
UPF stands for Ultraviolet Protection Factor and indicates how much of the sun's UV radiation is absorbed. UPF measurements of fabrics are generally tested by spectrophotometer equipment. For example, a fabric with a UPF rating of 50 only allows 1/50th of the sun's UV radiation to pass through it. This means that this fabric will reduce your skin's UV radiation exposure by 50 times (98% UV block) in areas where the skin is protected by the fabric. One big advantage of the UPF standard is that both UVA AND UVB rays are measured. Our fabric has been tested to repel 99% of the sun's UV radiation with a UPF rating of 55+. UV-Blocker umbrellas provide the highest protection available on the market. A copy of this certification is available upon request.
The outer canopy has our patented Solarteck® silver coating, which reflects the sun's energy instead of absorbing it the way dark fabric does. Our patented Vented Mesh System lets warm air escape between the upper and lower canopies, so heat doesn't build up underneath. Together they keep you up to 8°C (15°F) cooler than standing in direct sun.
Yes. UV-Blocker umbrellas are approved by the Melanoma International Foundation and recommended by dermatologists. The fabric is lab-tested to AATCC TM183-2020: it blocks 100% of UVB and 99.97% of UVA, for a UPF 50+ rating.
Partly. A UV-Blocker umbrella blocks the UV coming from overhead, but some UV bounces up from the ground. Dry beach sand reflects about 15%, sea foam about 25% and fresh snow up to 80%. The navy underside absorbs scattered UV instead of bouncing it onto you. For full protection, pair the umbrella with broad-spectrum sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses.
All UV-Blocker umbrellas have a patented Vented Mesh System that lets the wind pass between the upper and lower canopies. This makes the umbrella very stable in high winds preventing inversion. The umbrella are constructed with all fiberglass ribs and spreaders and making the umbrella very flexible and durable on windy days.

The sand anchor has a large over-size thumbscrew conveniently locks against any inserted pole 1.5-inches or less in diameter. It is light-weight, safe, and will easily fit into a beach bag. The continuous spiral blade pulls the auger downward when turned clockwise. It is long enough to reach through loose sand to secure beach umbrellas that will withstand very windy conditions. Turning it in the opposite direction will release it from the sand.

We have recently received many inquiries asking whether the stitches on the canopies of our umbrellas go horizontally or vertically. Please note that we constantly update our craftsmanship in order to make the best quality umbrellas and to give our customer ultimate sun protection. Since April 2017, we have switched supplier and upgraded our manufacturing process. The current stitching goes vertically and should look like the photo shown below.
