UV-Blocker Resource Hub Australia: Parasol Guides, Products & Research
UV-Blocker Sun Safety Library for Australia
Shop premium UPF 50+ UV parasols and sun umbrellas from UV-Blocker, along with holders and UV-blocking accessories. The full library sits below.
Ron Walker started UV-Blocker in 2005 after he was diagnosed with Stage 1 melanoma. Every parasol and umbrella we make is designed to block harmful UV radiation rather than simply cast shade, with one aim in mind: medical-grade sun protection you can take anywhere. Here you'll find all of our guides, product pages and research articles gathered together.
The patented Solarteck® silver reflective coating on every UV-Blocker parasol is independently tested to block 99% of UV rays. In AATCC TM183-2020 lab testing the fabric rated UPF 50+, blocking 100% of UVB and 99.97% of UVA, and the fabric was also tested by SGS to AS/NZS 4399, the Australian and New Zealand standard. Since the coating reflects sunlight instead of soaking it up, it can be up to 8°C cooler underneath than in direct sun.
UV-Blocker is the only golf umbrella brand with Melanoma International Foundation approval, and dermatologists recommend our parasols to patients with photosensitive conditions such as lupus, PMLE and rosacea. Cancer Council lists seeking shade as one of its five sun protection steps, and a UV parasol is shade you can carry.
Our range runs from 107 cm compact travel parasols to 157 cm and 173 cm golf umbrellas, and beach umbrellas of 1.8 m to 2.3 m. Each one has a patented vented mesh double canopy that lets wind pass through, so it won't turn inside out in gusty weather. The canopy fabric is RPET, made from recycled plastic bottles.
Scroll down for all 241 resources: sun protection research, UV safety guides, product comparisons and full details on every parasol and accessory in the UV-Blocker range.

UV Parasol and Umbrella Questions, Answered
Our team answers common questions about UV parasols and sun protection in Australia.
What is a UV parasol, and how does it differ from an ordinary umbrella?
A UV umbrella, or UV parasol, is made to block ultraviolet radiation rather than simply keep off rain. An ordinary umbrella stops roughly 77% of UV rays, depending on the colour and weave of its fabric. UV-Blocker's patented Solarteck® silver reflective coating blocks 99% of UV rays (UPF 50+) and reflects heat, so it can be up to 8°C cooler underneath.
What does a UPF 50+ rating mean for a parasol?
UPF means Ultraviolet Protection Factor. Fabric rated UPF 50+ lets less than 1/50th of UV radiation through, blocking at least 98% of rays. UV-Blocker exceeds that: independent AATCC TM183-2020 testing shows it blocks 100% of UVB and 99.97% of UVA, and the fabric was tested by SGS to AS/NZS 4399, the Australian and New Zealand standard.
Can a UV parasol take the place of sunscreen?
Not on its own. A UV parasol gives excellent overhead protection, yet it can't stop UV bouncing off the ground, water or sand. Dermatologists recommend pairing it with sunscreen, in line with Cancer Council's advice to seek shade and slop on SPF50+ sunscreen. If a skin condition rules out sunscreen, a UPF 50+ umbrella like UV-Blocker still gives significant direct-sun coverage.
Do UV-Blocker parasols stand up to wind?
Yes. Each UV-Blocker parasol has a patented vented mesh double canopy. Wind passes through the two layers instead of catching underneath, so the umbrella doesn't turn inside out. That makes it a good choice for blustery days at the beach, on the golf course or out walking.
Can US payment schemes be used for orders to Australia?
Those spending accounts are part of the US health system rather than an Australian scheme. For orders to Australia, UV-Blocker umbrellas, from the compact and travel models to the beach umbrellas, are priced in AUD, with freight calculated at checkout.
Which UV parasol is best for medical conditions such as lupus?
Dermatologists recommend UV-Blocker for people with lupus, PMLE, rosacea and other photosensitive conditions, and it is the only umbrella brand approved by the Melanoma International Foundation. For everyday use, many people choose the 107 cm compact, which fits in a handbag or bag, while the 147 cm large folding parasol gives more coverage for longer stretches outdoors.
